History of our Caboose

Our Caboose is a 1914 Canadian Pacific Railway Caboose built in the Angus Yards located in Montreal, Quebec. It has a wood frame on a steel base, and was acquired by the museum from an anonymous donor. On August 16, 2019 it was moved to the museum and welcomed by loud cheers and excitement as it was placed on 85 feet of track built by volunteers.

During the summers of 2020 and 2021 the caboose underwent extensive restoration with new exterior tongue and groove siding installed, as well as a new tin roof and new tongue and groove installed in the interior. In addition, it was painted to match the exact exterior colours that 1914 CPR cabooses had.

In 2023 the installation of tongue and groove siding in the cupola area was completed, along with interior window framing.

This restoration project would not have been possible without the Manitoba Government's Building Sustainable Community's grant, the support of the R.M of Thompson, as well as the numerous donors who supported the multiple fundraisers we  held.
